課程概述 |
Course Description: This course is an elementary introduction to the principles and methods of linguistics. It is designed to be the first course in linguistics, and, thus, no prior knowledge of linguistics is assumed. The topics to be discussed include central areas of linguistic research, i.e. morphology, syntax, semantics, phonetics and phonology, along with other related fields and new developments such as psychology of language, neurolinguistics, social linguistics and computational linguistics.

Course Objective: The main purpose of this course is to provide the students a broad understanding of human language: what it is, what it is used for, and how it works. Ultimately, the course should result in learning how to think about language rigorously and analytically. |

Group discussion (the last half to one hour of most sections) : 20%
Midterm Exam: 30%
Final group project & oral report: 20%
Class participation and attendance: 10%
